The Department of Biology at the University of Iowa invites applications for an instructional track faculty position (non-tenure track), beginning August 20, 2025. The initial appointment is for three years, subject to annual review. This instructional track faculty position is renewable and includes opportunities for promotion with longer appointment intervals. This position will primarily contribute to administration and instruction in the neurobiology courses, including Neurobiology I (BIOL:3253) and Neurobiology II (BIOL:3254) and their associated graduate courses (BIOL:5658 and 5659), and other neuroscience courses including investigative lab courses (examples: How the Brain Works, BIOL1251; Introduction to Neurobiology, BIOL:2753; Neurogenetics Laboratory, BIOL:3655). This position may also contribute the administration and instruction of courses in one or more other areas (genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, or physiology), based on candidate expertise. Responsibilities of this position include providing instruction in lectures and laboratory settings, and overseeing the teaching of the discussion sections. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following roles: define learning objectives and develop engaging lecture content that supports these learning objectives; train and supervise graduate student TAs; revise or create course materials and assessments; revise or create lab activities, materials, and assessments; develop additional course materials such as syllabi, assessments, and lecture slides; and other instructional duties as needed.

 

The successful applicant will have: 1) a PhD or equivalent in biology, neurobiology, or a related field in hand by the start date; 2) experience teaching biology lecture and/or laboratory courses; 3) one or more years of neurobiology research experience; 4) expertise in neurobiology and one or more additional subject areas (genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, physiology) and 4) excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
