Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock seeks to hire a UALRS Research Associate in the STEM Education Center, in association with an NSF Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE), Upholding Active Learning Reform in STEM (UALRS) project. Project goals include improving the culture and support for teaching at UA Little Rock, supporting the growth of the learning assistant program, and training faculty to utilize evidence-based best practices, including learning assistants. This position will receive mentoring from faculty and staff that are involved with the UALRS project, which includes faculty from Chemistry, the STEM Center, and the School of Education. Responsibilities include mixed methods or qualitative education research and expanding professional development for STEM faculty related to teaching. This is a provisional grant-funded position. In addition, this position is an initial one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance, project scope, and availability of funds. Opportunities to teach within your discipline or pedagogy courses will be encouraged. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree;

  • Expertise in STEM education research or discipline-based education research with an emphasis on qualitative research methods and techniques or mixed methods research with a strong qualitative background;

OR

  • Expertise in social science with an emphasis on qualitative research methods and techniques or mixed-methods research with a strong qualitative background.

 

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • A doctoral degree that must be completed no later than six months after the hire date, meaning candidates who are ABD (All But Dissertation) may be considered if they will defend and complete their degree within that time frame;

  • Doctoral degrees preferred in STEM education research, Discipline-based education research (DBER) (e.g., physics education research, chemistry education research), or social science field (e.g., sociology, psychology, or education with a social science focus);

  • Experience working with learning assistant programs;

  • Experience leading professional development for STEM faculty;

  • Experience leading communities of practice.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead with data collection efforts;

  • Lead qualitative data analysis efforts;

  • Engage in scholarship activities (publishing and presenting at conferences);

  • Assist with UALRS program logistics​;

  • Assist with the development and implementation of faculty professional development.

  • Productively drive projects forward to publication of scholarly research;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment;

  • Strong interpersonal skills;

  • Social network analysis;

  • Behavioral research;

  • R-Studio statistical analysis;
