The Department of Microbiological Sciences, within the College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources at North Dakota State University (NDSU), invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice position (100% Teaching). We seek a dynamic and collaborative educator who is passionate about teaching and student success, excited to innovate in the classroom, and eager to help grow our undergraduate programs in microbiology and biotechnology.

The successful candidate will teach:

  • Introductory Microbiology (Lecture)
  • Introductory Microbiology Laboratory
  • General Microbiology Laboratory
  • Famine, Plagues, and Cheese (a 100-level, online general education microbiology course)

In addition to teaching, the individual will contribute to:

  • Advising undergraduate students.
  • Leading and coordinating recruitment activities to expand enrollment in our B.S. programs in Microbiology and Biotechnology.
  • Supporting student engagement, experiential learning, and career development initiatives.

Hiring Range:

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Microbiology or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of effective and innovative, independent teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching and fostering a welcoming classroom environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated use of active learning, inquiry-based, or other evidence-based pedagogical strategies.
  • Experience teaching both large lecture courses and laboratory courses.
  • Experience as a primary instructor of a lecture course and laboratory course.
  • Experience or interest in recruiting and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Experience developing or updating curriculum and course materials.
  • Experience in incorporating technology and online learning tools to enhance instruction.
